Resources

When I was taking care of my parents I was faced with issues that I never realized would require day-to-day products and devices. I needed resources to find them but where to look was a constant time-consuming battle.

My dad became immobile and unable to communicate clearly. He was six feet, 3 inches at 200 pounds. He was in a wheel-chair during the day and mostly easy to control.

My mom was capable of caring for her personal needs but unable to live alone. She could walk but her feet were numb and her ankles tended to swell. She also had familial tremors so eating presented a problem.

Everything on the list below became an issue at some point. Some were taken care of by the memory care unit Dad lived in the last few months of his life. But even there, we found the need to provide some help.

● sleeping aids, specialty bedding, monitors
● dietary supplements, depression and anxiety, aromatherapy,
● durable goods for elderly such as beds, hammocks, chairs, lifts, transport and transfer aids, mobility,
● kitchen appliances, diet and nutrition, dishware/flatware/drinking cups
● bathroom safety equipment, skin care, personal hygiene/incontinence
● foot health and care,
● dental plans and appliances,
● arthritis supplies and equipment,
● home security, emergency alerts
● housing resources and placement,
● travel plans, travel aids.

I have plans to investigate products that will be of help to those who are looking for resources. This page will be constantly updated and new items added.

I will share the pros and the cons of the item. I will provide contact information and possibly purchasing power. I will NOT suggest anything that I haven’t fully vetted but understand that I won’t be able to personally try everything.

As my dad would say “I’ll do my darndest to do my best.”
